And The Winners Are…

Did anyone catch the Academy Awards tonight? Unfortunately I missed most of it because I had assumed that it would air around 7-8pm, when in fact it aired much earlier than that. Oh well. My bf and I watched the last half (without sound) at Hooters. Yeah, I know it’s a strange environment to watch it, but we wanted chicken wings, dammit!
Anyway, for those who missed it, here’s a breakdown of the winners in these major categories.
Best Picture: Crash
Best Director: Ang Lee, for Brokeback Mountain
Best Actor: Phillip Seymour Hoffman, for Capote
Best Actress: Reese Witherspoon, for Walk The Line
Best Supporting Actor: George Clooney, for Syriana
Best Supporting Actress: Rachel Weisz, for The Constant Gardener
Best Adapted Screenplay: Brokeback Mountain
Best Original Screenplay: Crash
Best Cinematography: Memoirs of a Geisha
Best Original Documentary: March of the Penguins
Best Original Language Film: Tsotsi
Best Animated Feature: Wallace and Grommit and the Curse of the Ware-Rabbit
Best Original Score: Brokeback Mountain
Best Original Song: “It’s Hard Out There for a Pimp”, from Hustle and Flow
Sadly, I have not seen many of these films! I guess it’s because when I go to the movies, I expect to be entertained. I don’t want to watch something deep, intense, and provocative. I just want to have fun. I do want to rent some of these when they come out on DVD.
What did you guys think of the winners? Were they as you expected? Who or which films did you want to win instead?
