Blu-Ray Likes Porn After All
Published by Kaonashi January 26th, 2007 in News.About two weeks ago I reported on Sony backing out of an agreement with adult film studio Digital Playground to publish their movies in Blu-Ray. Digital Playground has decided to publish their works exclusively in HD-DVD format. There Joone, Digital Playground’s founder, and adult movie director, claimed that the US facilities that publish Blu-Ray discs told him that Sony threatened to revoke their Blu-Ray licenses if they published adult material. Sony seemed doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past, for it has been argued that one of the deciding factors between the Betamax vs. VHS format war was when the adult movie industry put their support behind VHS.
Well, it looks like Sony has woken up and smelled the coffee. According to High Def Digest, Marty Gordon, Vicechair of the Blu-Ray Disc Association US Promotions Committee, indirectly refuted these claims, explaining that the Sony-backed organization is committed to working with “all” content providers. “The BDA welcomes the participation of all companies interested in using and supporting the format, particularly those from the content industry,” said Gordon. “We look forward to working with any content providers interested in providing their audience with [the] best possible high-definition home entertainment experience.”
Indeed, TV Predictions reports that adult studio Vivid Entertainment plans to release a remake of the porn classic Debbie Does Dallas, in both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD formats. The remake, titled Debbie Does Dallas…Again, will be due sometime in late March or early April.
