NoFace for Film

About 6 years ago, my younger sister (who was 13 at the time) watched the film Moulin Rouge! and became ga-ga over some actor named Ewan McGregor. She started collecting his pictures and watching his films- even the um, naughty ones. I saw a few pictures of this Ewan fellow when he was younger and had longer hair, and I thought, “Hmm. Ya know, he’d make a great Kurt Cobain if they ever do a movie about him.”

I called it back then, and years later it looks like the movie gods are listening to me. Cinematical reports via Virgin.net that McGregor is a strong choice to play the deceased Nirvana lead singer in a movie about his life. Courtney Love is reported to also favor McGregor as the one to play her husband.

I can’t imagine anyone else playing Kurt Cobain, at least not any other established actor. I suppose they can go with a complete unknown, but that’s always a risky proposition. It has to be McGregor. Not only is he an underrated, awesome actor, but he’s practically the spitting image of Cobain. Hell, he practically already played Cobain in Velvet Goldmine. I mean, technically the character of Curt Wild was based more on David Bowie and Iggy Pop, but as commenter Christopher said on Cinematical, there are elements of Cobain in the character. Besides, I think that the pictures below speak for themselves.

You can’t deny that the resemblance is uncanny.

I know that 35-year-old McGregor may be a bit old to play Cobain, especially since the movie will likely explore Cobain’s early beginnings with Nirvana, but I agree with the comment in the Virgin article, in that McGregor still looks young enough. Besides, as I mentioned in a comment on the Cinematical news article, if 45-year-old Kevin Spacey can play a 27-year-old Bobby Darrin in Beyond the Sea, I think that McGregor can play Cobain in his twenties.
