How to Improve NoFace for Film? at NoFace for Film

How to Improve NoFace for Film?

I’ve been running NoFace for Film now for about 9 months (not including the 5 months that I hosted it on Wordpress.com and called it Reel Reviews), and I often think about how I can improve it.

For the longest time I’d check out my website and notice that not too many people comment. I then assumed that no one was visiting. One day it then dawned on me that I hadn’t checked my stats in a long time, so I logged on my account just to see approximately how many people actually visit.

Imagine my surprise when I saw that it was more than I had originally assumed. It brings the question then, as to why these lovely people don’t comment. Is there something that I should be doing that will entice more people to participate? Perhaps certain genres of movies I should look into? I’d really like to have a more dynamic website, with people chipping in their thoughts on the movies I review.

Here are some possible reasons I came up with on why people aren’t commenting more:

- My “no spoilers” rule is too strict, and people just don’t want to say anything.

- Unlike most movie review blogs/websites, I don’t post movie news and instead provide a newsfeed.

- Most of the movies I review are not currently in theaters.

- I’m not a celebrity gossip blog, and you’ll never see a single photo of any drunk starlet’s naked crotch.

- I don’t update every single day.

- I don’t do podcasts.

- My reviews suck.

Of course there are lurkers out there, but I have a hard time believing that nearly all my readers are lurkers.

I think it’d be cool if people would comment more often on the movies and the reviews, get a discussion going! Surely, some of you have seen the movies I write about. Surely, some of you have an opinion. I’d like to hear your comments about them.

Also, if any of you have any suggestions on how I can spice up NoFace for Film and get more people commenting, feel free to use the “Contact” form or leave a comment.

I think drawing an emotion is the best way to get someone to comment. In TIBs case, it’s humor or the gross out factor that brings comments out of people. Also, I think what you’re reviewing makes a difference. I think the McRib review got a whole bunch of comments because it’s the McRib, probably one of the more unique sandwiches McDonald’s has every made. But then yesterday’s review on Special K20 protein water, which I thought was a much better written review, didn’t get as many comments. Try different things, but I also think a very important thing to do is to post regularly. Not doing so will probably cause you to lose readers.
