Total HD to End HD-DVD and Blu-Ray War?

Time Warner will unveil a new high-definition digital videodisc next week that could end the battle between two next-generation digital video player technologies, the company said on Thursday.
Time Warner’s (Charts) Warner Bros., a movie studio division of the world’s largest media company, plans to present the new disc, Total HD, at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Total HD discs will carry movies that can be played on high-definition DVD players that use technology backed by Sony’s (Charts) Blu-ray format as well as players using the Toshiba-backed HD-DVD format.
Oh, dammit. Just as my boyfriend and I have started our HD-DVD library, this comes along.
I just had a thought. If Warner Bros. is the company designing Total HD, wouldn’t that mean that only Warner Bros. products will come in this format? And even if they offer to put movies and TV shows from other studios in Total HD, who’s to say that they’d go along with it, especially Sony Pictures? Guess we’ll still have to wait and see.
